Electrão is, since 2005, one of the drivers of waste recycling in Portugal. Established initially to take over the management of waste electric and electronic equipment (WEEE), it has positioned itself as managing entity of streams and waste batteries and accumulators (WBA), and waste packaging (WP) produced in Portugal.
Electrão is the larger managing entity operating in Portugal, in the extended producer responsibility field regarding electric and electronic equipment (EEE) and batteries and accumulators (BA), earning the trust of 2000 companies in this sector, who place close to 100,000 tonnes of these products on the market annually. In 2017, Electrão was responsible for the collection and routing for treatment and disposal of over 400,000 tonnes in waste electric and electronic equipment (WEEE) and waste batteries and accumulators (WBA) produced in Portugal.
Since its establishment, Electrão has become an expert in recycling solutions for the waste they are responsible for, a vital driver for innovation and an efficient waste management. Therefore, Electrão participates actively in European forums directed at the development and implementation of good practices in WEEE, WBA and WP management.
